From the Cordillera and its rice terraces to the jewel of Palawan

A stay between sea and mountains to discover the North of Luzon and El Nido (2 pax)

Highlights:

  • The fortified city of Intramuros
  • Hike to the crater lake of Pinatubo volcano
  • The hanging coffins of Sagada
  • Miner’s View, the Mansion and the Baguio Market
  • The rice terraces of Banaue and Batad
  • Bacuit Bay in El Nido
  • Kayangan Lake in Coron and the Calamian Islands archipelago

This itinerary takes you to discover two fantastic regions of the Philippines.

Igorot (the “mountain people” in ancient Tagalog) is the term used to define the different ethnic groups originating from the Cordillera, the large mountain range 300km north of Manila, on the island of Luzon, including the Ifugaos, sculptors of the famous Banaue rice terraces.

In the first week, a spectacular route awaits you, taking the famous Halsema Highway, a high-altitude road overlooking the terraces. It’s also a cultural route, exploring ancestral customs kept alive by remarkable peoples. Finally, it’s a demanding route, with occasional uneven roads and walking on the terraces’ retaining walls. The price to pay to get as close as possible to the stars!

In the second week, you’ll head to a region hard hit and marked by history and the Second World War. The Battle of Palawan is indeed famous and left traces of the American reconquest of the island occupied by the Japanese: no fewer than a dozen wrecks of Japanese ships lie there, ranging from 10 to 43 meters deep. You’ll follow an impressive route from Puerto Princesa to Coron, passing through Port Barton and El Nido at the northern tip of Palawan, stretching over 450 km long.
